Unaccompanied children between the ages of 5 and 11 are given particular attention and care during their travels, including pre-boarding, extra snacks, assistance, etc. The airlines charge a fee for these extra services. One of the few airlines that provides assistance for unaccompanied adolescents flying alone is Lufthansa. The Lufthansa Unaccompanied Minor Fee is 95 USD for travel within Germany, Austria, and Switzerland in Europe; 105 USD for travel within North Africa; 130 USD for travel within the Middle East and Arab region; and 140 USD and 170 USD, respectively, for medium-haul and long-haul international flights.
